On September 26, the Confederation of Business Associations of Burgos (FAE) held the 9th edition of the FAE Innovation Awards, a recognition that highlights the work of companies committed to R&D&I in the province.
On this occasion, Ficosterra was awarded in the microenterprise category, reinforcing our commitment to innovation in sustainable and regenerative agriculture, developing biofertilizers and biostimulants that enhance crop performance in a natural and organic way.
The event took place at the Caja de Burgos Art Center (CAB) and was attended by various authorities, FAE members, previous award winners, and the jury responsible for evaluating the projects.
Throughout the ceremony, different representatives from the business and institutional sectors emphasized the importance of innovation as a driver of growth and differentiation at any stage of a company’s development.
José María Vela, Managing Director of the Castilla y León Technological Institute (ITCL) and Technical Secretary of the award, highlighted the daily efforts of Burgos-based companies in innovation. He also pointed out how this commitment has made Burgos a national benchmark in research and development in the agri-food and environmental sectors.
Meanwhile, FAE Vice President Gonzalo López Recio emphasized:
“Innovation, research, and development are absolutely necessary, not only for companies to grow but also to sustain themselves over time.”
Likewise, Rafael Barbero, President of the Caja de Burgos Foundation, which sponsors the award, highlighted the relevance of these recognitions:
“Our goal is to promote innovation in private companies. By creating role models like those we are awarding today, we ensure that innovation is present in companies’ strategies and translates into real projects.”
The award was received by Luis Lombana, CEO of Ficosterra, who expressed his gratitude to FAE and the Caja de Burgos Foundation for this recognition. In his speech, he emphasized Ficosterra’s focus on innovation applied to regenerative and sustainable agriculture, through the development of fertilizer amendments and liquid biofertilizers based on the properties of marine algae and microorganisms.
“This award recognizes our intense R&D trajectory focused on agriculture. A new agriculture where sustainability and environmental respect must be the priority of institutions, the agricultural industry, and, of course, farmers.”
The FAE Innovation Awards were established in 2011 to promote innovation in Burgos’ business network, recognizing SMEs and microenterprises that excel in R&D&I in agriculture, environmental protection, and sustainable industries. These awards are sponsored by the Caja de Burgos Foundation, the Castilla y León Technological Institute, and the University of Burgos.
In this edition, alongside Ficosterra, the company Pescafácil, specializing in seafood processing, was also awarded in the medium-sized business category.
