Ficosterra’s communications team recently contacted Pedro Flores, Head Greenkeeper at El Cortijo Golf Club in Gran Canaria. This sports complex features an 18-hole, Par 72 golf course with a length of 6,308 meters. Designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin, it is one of the longest courses in Spain.

In this setting, Ficosterra carried out its first turf trial using its regenerative microorganism bio-stimulant: ficosturf®.

Healthier and Stronger Turf

ficosturf® is a biological soil activator developed with BCB (Biological Crop Booster) technology. Its formulation increases the population of beneficial microorganisms in the soil, improving the balance of microflora and microfauna, and facilitates nutrient absorption through the root system.

Additionally, this biological activator helps control decomposition processes and reduces clogging in irrigation systems.

Field Experience
with ficosturf®

Pedro Flores first learned about the regenerative properties of ficosturf® through a distributor and quickly saw its potential. According to him, “the variety of bacterial strains it contains made it ideal and versatile for application in different areas of the course.”

In the spring of 2017, Pedro began applying it directly to the grass and shortly afterward incorporated it into the reclaimed water from the lakes used for irrigation. His goal was clear: to have an effective tool for fertilizing the course and improving the quality of the water in the lakes.

After years of using organic and mineral fertilizers to promote microbial life in the soil, Pedro found ficosturf® to be a perfect ally to achieve, in record time, a healthy, strong, and vibrantly colored turf.
