Objectives pursued<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Development of a technology for extracting specific active compounds from algae species Macrocystis pyrifera<\/em> and Laminaria hyperborea<\/em>, aimed at obtaining a very high concentration of highly bioactive and root-stimulating molecules through a low-temperature extraction process that preserves their natural properties and avoids high production costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Awarded with a Seal of Excellence by the European Innovation Council<\/a>, this project has received funding from CDTI (Government of Spain)<\/a> for its development and commercialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

THE CHALLENGE OF 21st CENTURY AGRICULTURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The current agricultural sector faces a huge challenge: feeding a growing population while adhering to more sustainable practices that involve reducing chemical products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support this new population, agriculture has adopted more complex and costly farming systems that involve optimizing plant growth and productivity by selecting high-yield varieties, which often require highly assisted and costly cultivation plans, abundant irrigation plans, and the use of agrochemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides that largely leach from the soil to groundwater, rivers, and oceans, causing eutrophication and loss of biodiversity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In a context of strong economic, social, and regulatory pressure in the EU (2019\/1009 Regulation 1107\/2009)<\/a>, farmers are aware that they must change their agricultural practices to reduce their environmental impact. At the same time, they have a commitment to our society to maintain productivity levels in line with the population’s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this dilemma, the market increasingly offers sustainable solutions that help reduce the use of chemical fertilizers without reducing crop productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these new products are bio-stimulants and bio-fertilizers capable of regenerating the soil and stimulating the crop’s natural processes to improve rooting, nutrient absorption and efficiency, strengthen tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress, and consequently increase productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TRD TECHNOLOGY
<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The R&D department of the Spanish Marine Biotechnology company Ficosterra has successfully developed an exclusive technique for extracting marine active compounds from brown algae of the Laminariaceae family.<\/strong>
This pioneering system ensures a very high concentration of highly bioactive, root-stimulating molecules.<\/strong>
These algae are among the largest species in the world and are known for their rapid and intense growth, as well as their ability to store valuable active compounds and nutrients essential for agriculture.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

This technology, called Total Recovery Deployment (TRD), enables the extraction of specific substances present in the cells of these algae at room temperature and without the use of chemicals, helping to preserve the purity of these active compounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TRD technology is quantified and validated by the <\/strong>Spanish Government’s Superior Council of Scientific Research<\/strong><\/a> and its uniqueness has earned it a Seal of Excellence from the European Union. It is currently in the development phase with funding of \u20ac1,100,000 from the <\/strong>Center for Development and Innovation of the Spanish Government<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n
