Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) is one of the 17 goals at the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all UN Member States in 2015.

The SDGs aims to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure global prosperity, under the prism of sustainability and care for the environment. SDG 14 aims to conserve and sustainably use marine resources from the ocean and seas.

To achieve these goals in each of the contexts, it is necessary to have tools such as innovations, new technologies and, of course, financial resources that make them possible.

For this reason, UNDP, with partners Sida and Norad, launched the first
Ocean Innovation Challenge program in 2020, an ambitious initiative designed to accelerate progress on SDG14 by identifying public or private sectors for innovative, transformative, replicable, scalable, and poverty reducing projects that work towards the restoration of the ocean and coasts in order to protect and promote the “Blue Economy”.

The selected innovation proposals will receive support up to $250,000 and the timeframe for their development can last from one to two years.
